light-world

Every year around Christmas, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints sponsors a #LightTheWorld initiative that emphasizes that Jesus Christ is the Light of the World.

The Church provides the following resources at LightTheWorld.org in English, Spanish, Portuguese, and French:

Videos

Hope Still Shines Bright” video. Don’t just “wait for 2020 to be over.” We can do great good and make this the most meaningful Christmas ever.

Re-release of “The Christ Child,” an 18-minute video that beautifully retells the nativity story.

An additional video, “The Christ Child: Behind the Scenes,” will be released on November 30. This unique behind-the-scenes production shares the scriptural and historical considerations, and a few unscripted miracles, that led to the creation of “The Christ Child.” Watch the Facebook Premiere of this video on the Come Unto Christ Facebook page on November 30, 2020, at 6:00 p.m. MST.

Local Efforts

In-person events, like the giving machines, are suspended for 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. (These are the large red vending machines that have been in use since 2017 to help people donate to various charities. Last year, the machines raised $6.2 million to bring food, supplies, clean water, sanitation and personal development workshops to people in need.) This year, you can donate directly to organizations that partner with Latter-day Saint Charities.

December 20th “Come and See” Sundays are left up to bishops to determine what to do, based on local circumstances. In some cases, it may be appropriate for members to invite their friends to attend Sunday services or wards could hold a virtual service.
