The Church publishes translations of the Book of Mormon in the six Mayan languages listed below. (The Mayan language family includes languages spoken by about 6 million people who live primarily in Guatemala and Southern Mexico.)

Many of the people who speak these languages are illiterate, or if they have learned to read, it is usually in Spanish, so they are unable to read their native language fluently. (To learn more about this plight, read the paragraph about Education in Guatemala.) Therefore, the Church has made audio recordings of some of these translations and makes them available online, along with the text.
