Traces of things past, that is the direct route to my melancholy heart.  Lacrimae rerum, and the soul is sandstone, and the waters of old have left their channels in it.

But how delightful when the water runs full again!

When a man looks around him and sees in his mind’s eye what might be, then makes it be, that is something!  He is a creator and he has greatness.

When a man looks around him and sees ruins and traces of ruins and brings them to life again, that is greater.  It is greater to allow voices to speak from the dust and people to rise from the clay where their bodies were buried.
