3 And now, O king, if thou wilt spare our lives, we will be thy servants. And the king said unto them: Arise, for I will grant unto you your lives, and I will not suffer that ye shall be my servants; but I will insist that ye shall administer unto me; for I have been somewhat troubled in mind because of the generosity and the greatness of the words of thy brother Ammon; and I desire to know the cause why he has not come up out of Middoni with thee.
Continuing with the theme of the last chapter, this chapter again illustrates how missionary seeds once planted can grow and blossom unexpectedly. Ammon could likely not have imagined that his words and actions would have such a profound impact on King Lamoni’s father. After all, the man had tried to kill him!

But Ammon nevertheless made a profound impact through his generosity and through the greatness and goodness of his words. 

King Lamoni likewise may have felt dejected and depressed and certain that his father would never listen to the Gospel. But the lord laid a foundation for his miraculous conversion and for the incredible blessings that followed.

What we do matters. Even if we merely plant seeds that do not at first blush begin to sprout. The Lord will nevertheless work miracles through us.
