“And it shall come to pass that the Lord God shall commence his work among all nations, kindreds, tongues, and people, to bring about the restoration of his people upon the earth.”

One of the other major contributions of Nephi’s writings is a clearer picture of the timeline of the restoration and second coming. Nephi makes it clear that first the word of God shall spread to the gentiles, next the restoration of the Gospel shall begin among them including the restoration of the Book of Mormon itself. Then God’s work of restoration among those of the house of Israel shall begin in full force ” to bring about the restoration of his people upon the earth.” It is only after that process that the great millennial day described by Isaiah when the lion shall lie with the lamb will come. Thus, it is only after a restoration and a gathering that peace can prevail.
