The night before Christmas, a young goat stood far out in the farmyard with his back to  it.

A crow settled near him on the fence and observed the goat awhile.

Finally, the crow spoke.  “Here is what I see,” the crow said.  “Over there in the farmyard, I see oats and grain and fresh straw.   I believe the farmer must have put out some extra treats for Christmas Eve. I see light and warmth where the animals are.  But I also see a goat out here in the dark and the cold with his back to it.”

“Christmas Eve isn’t my holiday,” the goat replied sullenly.  “Have you ever seen a nativity with a goat in it?  And besides, the farmer can be less than kind and thoughtful at other times of year.  I’m out here to show him what I think of him and his  holiday.”

“Suit yourself,”  the crow said.  “As for me, I wonder if even a crow could make himself part of the nativity tonight.  The grain looks delicious.”  With that, the crow took wing and flew in to the farmyard.

Moral: don’t go on strike against happiness.
