Before the Saturday session of this October's General Conference, a choir member read a spiritual thought that went something like this:

In the choir, there exists members who find joy and solace in singing music which inspires and lifts them. There are those who faithfully come each week to do their calling. There are those who have their personal struggles with family members. There are those that struggle with divorce. There are those that struggle with death and dying and the responsibilities of taking care of them. There are those who struggle with unemployment, under-employment, living paycheck to paycheck. There are those that sacrifice much to be a member of The Mormon Taberacle Choir. There are the family members of those in the choir that also sacrifice much. Yet through all of these, we put on our happy faces to sing testimony of our Savior. We face those struggles in our own way, and have the support of fellow choir members and family to sustain us. It seems to me that the description above is a small microcosm of the world-wide church.

We were edified by that thought as we, in our own ways prepared for General Conference. Little did we or the person that gave the spiritual thought know that President Dieter F. Uchtdorf 's talk and others would be precisely on, or touch on the same subject.

I think I have mentioned this before, but it bears repeating; the music for General Conference is decided by the choir directors. They related to us that their decisions on what music is to be sung cones as a result of prayer and fasting. And it was mentioned by Elder Hales that the talks are prayerfully prespated by the speaker; no subject is given to them. So, the talks we hear at General Conference are a result of inspiration. How amazing it was to me that the music prepared for the particular session of General Conference, and in what order was in perfect harmony with what the speaker was presenting. This, to me is a second witness.

To me, the 2nd or 3rd witness of a subject is very near and dear to my heart. Hearing a message once is uplifting, but hearing it a 2nd or 3rd time, and having the Holy Ghost bear personal witness of the truth is an amazing process. Perhaps I am sort of like The apostle Thomas; where I need more proof, or witnesses of a subject before I can truly believe and heed. And sometimes, I discover those things on my own and only need the second witness of the Holy Ghost.

We all know that the subtitle of The Book of Mormon is Another Testament of Jesus Christ. So, one can read the Book of Mormon and see that it, indeed is in harmony of the same Savior mentioned in the Bible. It stands as a second witness. Missionaries are sent in pairs to preach the gospel. One typically speaks on a subject and the second testifies of the truthfulness of what is being presented. The third witness comes when the investigator is touched by what is presented, and is invited to read and pray about it. The Holy Ghost then can bear witness.

In a court of law, a single witness can help win a a case, but it is almost a sure win when a second or third witness can speak and can collaborate with what the original witness testified. Just this evening, I blogged about obedience. And within an hour, a second blogger came a blogged about the same thing. And, a major news group posted a quote about the same subject. This, to me is second, third, and beyond witnesses. I have, like probably everyone else - had a General Conference talk that just seemed like they were talking directly to me. After pondering this thought, I have come to the conclusion that these kind of talks are either a call to repentance or an answer to a prayer. Yet again, a second witness.

Second witnesses can help cement our testimony of the gospel. The second witness "mortar" is strong and will help make those gospel "blocks" even more strong and immovable and make it even harder for the adversary to penetrate and break.
