Well, a new social media platform has been rolled out in trial version by Google: Google +, their newest go at extending their search engine into a social network, for more of a real-time user experience.
With Circles, Sparks, and Hangouts, Google Plus allows users to choose to share relevant activities with respective groups (circles of families, co-workers, hobbyists); passions with those likely to appreciate them (sparks); and spontaneous video and audio on-the-spot (hangouts). With Google + Sparks, Google provides a recommendation engine for finding interesting content. The feature layers a smorgasbord of articles, videos, photos and other content grouped by interest for the user. For example, the “Movies” spark will have a listing of recent and relevant content for that topic. Tell us what you think about ways this may affect future engagement and ways of sharing valued content and our lives online. With Facebook’s over 750 million users, what will Google + mean in social media and real life interactions on the Web? More importantly, how does it shape how we will message the good news of the gospel? Share your thoughts with us.
