This small shop in France has a disturbing banner for English speakers, until they remember that "pain" is the French word for bread. The "Pain Show" is a popular bread store. But our entire mortal journey could well begin with a similar banner: "Welcome to the Pain Show." The final product, though, if we endure it well, is even tastier than a steaming hot baguette--though it's hard to imagine anything could be better than real French bread, except real French cheese served with real French bread. (Yes, going to France, like our journey through mortality in general, is definitely worth the pain. It's just that France is one of the least painful places to spend mortality, at least based on the food.)
