I’ve  asked family and friends to recapture some noted remarks from LDS modern apostles and a living prophet, from this morning’s 181st Saturday Session of General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (nicknamed “Mormons“). Some of these nuggets of wisdom that come to us through leaders who have engaged us and who are engaging us on this lovely spring day in Salt Lake City, the Church’s headquarters, include the following (these may not be verbatim, as the formal addresses are not yet printed):

Don’t pick and choose what commandments you will obey–taking the cafeteria approach.  Elder Nelson

The attributes of children around us may be the key to our own spiritual growth.  The home is a great place to “behold” our children–not just to look casually at them, but to look into their eyes, see who they are, “behold them.”

Believe Him.   Elder Nelson

It’s one thing for someone to refer to us as the “Mormon Church” but another thing for us to do so. The use of the full  name of the Church is increasingly important in sharing the gospel.  When referring to us, Latter day Saints is preferred.   Elder Melvin J. Ballard

Temples in Colorado, Canada, and Idaho announced:  President and LDS Prophet, Thomas S. Monson

Missionary service is the life-blood of the Church. President Thomas S. Monson

I hope each of us will search our hearts to see what we really desire and how they reflect our priorities… The desires we act upon our changing, our achieving, and our becoming.  Elder Dallin H. Oaks

I encourage you to turn your sympathy into action for to lift the poor and the needy.  Elder Henry B. Eyring

Our faith now will be the faith of our children later.  Elder Nelson.

Speaking of Family Home Evening, a time when Latter-day Saints (nicknamed Mormon–preferred name is Latter-day Saint) gather as families for counsel, sharing of talents and learning the gospel: There is great power and protection for us and our youth in establishing celestial traditions in our home–through word and example. Through establishing these traditions in our home, we will be able to overcome the world and increase the Spirit.  Richard J. Maynes

Rarely in the future will it be easy or popular to be a Latter-day Saint. It can either crush you into silent weakness or motivate us to be more courageous.   Elder Nelson

The atonement covers all of the conditions and offenses of others.  Elder Richards
