Today, during the Saturday Morning Session of the 181st Annual General Conference, President Thomas S. Monson announced that three new temples will be built in the following locations:
  • Fort Collins, Colorado, USA
  • Meridian, Idaho, USA
  • Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
I gasped when I heard that a temple was to be built in Meridian, Idaho, as that is right next to Boise, Idaho where I live, and (for me) is practically a part of Boise. I wondered if others, upon hearing the announcement of a temple in or near their homes (or other areas of importance to them) also gasp or feel the overpowering sense of joy and gratitude that immediately filled my heart.

As a young girl, I was barely of age to attend the dedication of the Boise, Idaho Temple in 1984 but I still remember some of that experience, which I even wrote about in my journal.

The Church Newsroom has the following brief article with some interesting facts about each of these future temple locations including the number of current temples in each state/province: Church Announces New Temples in Canada, Colorado, and Idaho.

There are currently 134 operating temples worldwide and, with today's announcement, 26 temples that have been announced or are under construction.
