Recent comments on Facebook that I agree with:
  • It's time to end the war in Afghanistan. I have no doubt the Taliban are brutal and evil, but they cannot be defeated in this way. Bring our troops home now.
  • This is a lost cause. They call the place the graveyard because every super power that has gone there has died. This is a siritual battle, one against the darkness of Islam and we do not have a President or Generals who can see that.
  • Taliban are not the reason we went -- that was Al-Queda and there are less than 100 in the country -- meaning we have more than 1000 soldiers for every Al-Queda member there. This is not affordable nor efficient. What could the US do with the money spent over there if spent on domestic needs instead? Get out of Afghanistan.
  • I don't believe a negotiated end to hostilities will accomplish anything that lasts, and we cannot have our people there to try to ensure it does. Thus we simply need to bring our troops home now. I suspect there are U.S. folks who have other agendas, however, such as: a) profiting from the war, e.g., through the sales of arms and/or services, etc., and b) helping to overwhelm the "system" in the United States with a huge amount of debt to help bring about a fundamental change from a democratic republic to a socialist state. Both of these motives are despicable but real.
