Barack Obama's nationally-televised speech to congress on health care included several incorrect statements.

The following half-truths or complete untruths were reported by the Associated Press:

OBAMA: "I will not sign a plan that adds one dime to our deficits either now or in the future. Period."

THE FACTS: House Democrats offered a bill that the Congressional Budget Office said would add $220 billion to the deficit over 10 years.

OBAMA: "Nothing in this plan will require you or your employer to change the coverage or the doctor you have."

THE FACTS: ...The Congressional Budget Office analyzed the health care bill written by House Democrats and said that by 2016 some 3 million people who now have employer-based care would lose it.

OBAMA: "Don't pay attention to those scary stories about how your benefits will be cut. ... That will never happen on my watch. I will protect Medicare."

THE FACTS: Obama and congressional Democrats plan to pay for their health care plans in part by reducing Medicare payments to providers by more than $500 billion over 10 years.

Reported by Legal Insurrection:

OBAMA: "The reforms I'm proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally."

THE FACTS: Technically, Obama was correct that his plan does not cover illegal aliens because Obama has no plan that has been released, only concepts. The Senate HELP Committee bill defines an "eligible individual" in numerous places throughout the bill to include only citizens and legal residents of the 50 states. (Note that a person can be a legal resident of a state, defined as qualifying for a driver's licences or in-state college tuition, and still not be a legal resident of the USA.) The full House Bill HR3200 has nothing that excludes illegal aliens from the various coverage provisions (with a few limited exceptions). Maybe Obama will make this whole problem go away by simply granting citizenship to all the illegals.

Reported by the National Right to Life:

OBAMA: "One more misunderstanding I want to clear up -- under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions."

THE FACTS: "House bill would explicitly authorize the federal government insurance plan to pay for elective abortions and would explicitly authorize subsidies for private abortion insurance -- and all with federal dollars, which are the only kind of dollars that the federal government can spend."
