Estimates on the number of illegal aliens in the USA vary widely, mostly because no one knows. Duh. They're here illegally, so they don't actually want to be counted. Estimates based on census data (the number of actual noses counted who admitted to be illegal) from a few years ago put the numbers at 12-20 million. More likely estimates peg the figure at 37-60 million, and increasing at the rate of about 4 million each year.

Do the math: At the high end of 60 million, divided by 300 million in USA, that means 1 out of every 5 people in the country today are here illegally.

Illegal immigrants pay fewer taxes than the average citizen (or if they are paid under the table, they pay no taxes). Yet illegal aliens receive government services paid for by tax-paying U.S. citizens. Illegal immigrant families receive an average of $30,000 in governmental benefits, yet they pay on average only $9,000 a year in taxes. That creates a $21,000 shortfall that the American taxpayer has to make up--for every illegal family, every year.

Makes your wallet feel a bit lighter, doesn't it?
