Last night I was awakened by two dreams. I do not know if the God was actually trying to communicate something to me or not, but they were vivid, and the interpretations I drew from them have given me guidance and comfort.

Power To Overcome Evil

In the first dream I was in a room with many other people. It was like a school cafeteria, and we were slowly progressing in a line. We were told that one person in the line would be attacked or haunted, and that person ended up being me. A robotic arm instantly flashed down on me, attaching an Oculus like device to my face.  I could not take it off and it was forcing me to watch images.

I saw an image of a ghostly woman that turned into a skeleton. Shrieking and sounds of horror accompanied it. I shut my eyes. I was aware that evil spirits were trying to get inside me, and I was not going to let them in. I knew that I was stronger than them. I focused on good and positive things. I am a disciple of Jesus Christ and have His priesthood power and the evil spirits were not able to get inside me.

I awakened and thought about the spiritual meaning of the dream. I decided that I will do everything I can to make sure evil spirits are not allowed to enter me or our home. After a few restless hours I fell back asleep and was awakened again with the next dream.

The Road Beside The Train Tracks

I dreamed I was driving the big van on a small road that ran parallel to train tracks. It was a rural setting, mostly vacant and peaceful. Suddenly things became busy and chaotic, with many cars of oncoming traffic coming down on the left side of the narrowing raod. My lane on the road had all but disappered and I was forced to drive up onto the rounded edge of the train tracks as the ongoing train came down the tracks. It did not seem big enough for everything happening around me. I realized I was drowsy and needed to stay alert because the driving was now so dangerous. I made it past the train, and the traffic on the left halted. Then the road went up an incline on a bridge, the tracks to the right were more like a roller coaster. I looked down and realized that the road below me was completely gone. Only the train track  on the right remained.

The van was already over the gap and should have fallen, but by an unseen force it did not. I was rescued. I put the van in reverse back to the safety of the narrow remaining road. I realized that the only way to get the van past the collapsed road was to take it along the train tracks. The tracks were now like a ladder, and the only way forward was to pull the van up the tracks by hand, before the next oncoming train arrived. It was impossible, but I began climbing a ladder with the van on my back. But as I reached for the next rung I realized it was possible. I was able to progress. It was hard, but I was moving upward. I was almost to the top, and no trains were coming. I knew I was going to make it.

To me this dream represents life and the struggles I am going through. At times we face impossible situations, like hanging over a gaping pit in a large van, where the only way to survive is by relying on the grace of Jesus Christ. His power is the force that pulls us back. But even after we are pulled out of danger we cannot overcome on our own, we still have to do the hard work. We still have to reach for one rung at a time and climb with a burden on our back so we can move out of the way of danger. Jesus Christ is still there. It is not easy, but he is pushing us up making the possible possible.

Follow Up At The Temple

During fast and testimony meeting on Sunday, I shared the second dream as part of it. Last night I was at the temple for a cleaning shift where I talked with one of the sisters in my ward. She commented on my dream and said something like, “I don’t know why we think we need to carry the van on our back.”

I read this article this morning, and I realized that not only has the Savior suffered for sins, but he has also suffered for infirmities.

We don’t need to carry the van on our back. The Savior can do that.
