Who’s losing? asks Elder Ashton in the Saturday Morning session of the October 1974 General Conference. Answer: no one. We all will win if we will.

Proper attitude in this crisis-dominated world is a priceless possession. Never before is it more important for all of us to move forward with conviction. We may be behind, but we are not losing if we are moving in the right direction. God will not score our performances until the end of the journey. He who made us expects us to be victorious.

He who made us expects us to be victorious.

Though its language of victory is from the military model, this sounds a bit like the schoolhouse model of Mormonism. Because in a war, not everybody can win.

Well, no. We are warring a spiritual warfare. The decision to trust in God for victory is itself a victory. Persevering is itself a triumph.
And we should trust in God. And we should persevere.

Because God cheats. He does not declare the game over until we have won. With all eternity to fight in, we can rally to overcome any score. And He is our coach and He is our player.

Shall we not go on in so great a cause?
