I think one reason Mormon so fully admired Captain Moroni and the other generals of his day is that they showed such great prudence and caution. They avoid unnecessary battles, and shedding blood. They would avoid battle until prepared and would not be aggressors without cause. And they also gave their adversaries an opportunity to surrender before destroying them.

The Nephites of Mormon’s day were vicious and blood thirsty. They were aggressors without cause. And when they won, they inflicted attrocities upon the Lamanites. What a stark contrast from Captain Moroni and his generals.
