11 And the bodies of many thousands are laid low in the earth, while the bodies of many thousands are moldering in heaps upon the face of the earth; yea, and many thousands are mourning for the loss of their kindred, because they have reason to fear, according to the promises of the Lord, that they are consigned to a state of endless wo.
In my opinion the single most comforting thing that the Prophet Joseph Smith taught is the knowledge that there is reason to hope for those who have left this life without accepting Jesus Christ. This knowledge was not on the earth among the Nephites. It was not something that was fully understood by the early Apostles. It is something that we are privileged and blessed to understand in the dispensation of the fullness of times.

As someone who recently lost my father who did not accept the Gospel, this teaching is a source of incredible incomparable joy. Because of the restoration I know that I need not fear. I know that my father will have a chance to learn of the Gospel more fully and have a chance to accept Jesus Christ. And I have a strong belief that he has done so.

This doctrine resonates with my soul. It fills me with grateful appreciation for God’s plan. Indeed it is the doctrine that led me to look into the Church for the first time. I am very grateful for it.
