Messiah-LiveTo celebrate the birth, life, and resurrection of Jesus Christ during this 2016 Easter season, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square will present Handel’s oratorio Messiah in its entirety. The concerts will be held on Thursday, March 24 and Good Friday, March 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the Tabernacle in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Tickets for the highly acclaimed 2014 Messiah concert were distributed in just over seven minutes. This year, to provide the most opportunities for concert seating, the performances will be heard in three locations:

  • Live concert in the Salt Lake Tabernacle
  • Premium simulcast in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building Legacy Theatre
  • Closed-circuit simulcast in the Conference Center Theatre

Tickets will be distributed for all three locations on a first-come, first-served basis on Tuesday evening, February 23, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. MST exclusively through lds.org/events. For those unable to get tickets, the concert will also be shown on a live stream at motab.org/messiah on Friday, March 25 at 7:30 p.m. MDT. The live stream will be available for ten days on the Choir website to accommodate time zones and schedules.

In addition to the concert this year, the Choir is inviting people around the world to celebrate Easter by organizing a MessiahSing event using the live-streamed concert to join with their community, church, and music groups to sing Messiah with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. They are providing instructions and downloadable lyrics and other materials to make this easy for you! What a wonderful way to celebrate with your friends and family.

On March 4, 2016, the newest releases of the Choir and Orchestra will be available—two versions of Handel’s Messiah: the Complete Oratorio on 2 CDs with a bonus DVD and a 60-minute Highlights CD.

Finally, don’t forget to upload your video singing your part of Handel’s “Hallelujah” chorus to join the virtual choir.  Learn more about it. You have until March 1 to upload your videos.
