Mormons celebrate Halloween

A frequently asked question on our website about Mormons (members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) is if we celebrate Halloween. Some members of the Church do not (and in the past we had a commenter share that fact, which we appreciate). But I think that approach tends to be the exception. I’ve never personally known any Mormon who doesn’t celebrate Halloween for religious reasons.

Personally, it’s not my favorite holiday. I’m not a fan of scary stuff or gore and, sweet tooth notwithstanding, the candy overload is something I kind of dread. (I offer to buy candy from my kids to give them an option to hand it over.) But I always look forward to seeing what ward members choose to wear at our annual Halloween party that the youth throw for the children. It’s fun how social media lights up with lots of fun photos. I like how parents and children get some  time together trick-or-treating. I like making kids smile as they come to my door on Halloween.

We’ve had some posts in the past that share a little more about Mormons and Halloween. We invite you to take a wander around our site to see what has been written. And feel free to ask any questions, about Halloween or anything else you might want to know about Mormons.

(And yes, I know that this is a photo of two Mormon men on a website with the name Mormon Women, but can you blame me for choosing this photo? I love how my ward friends know how to have fun.)

Happy Halloween!
