I can't share full details yet, but I've learned just a few parts of a story that reminds me how important each individual is and how much good one lone person can do, even when that person may feel insignificant. I'll keep the people and nation involved anonymous. In this case, the hero was a single mother who had been abandoned by an unkind husband. The mother accepted a student from another country, a teenage girl, into her home for a few months. When that girl returned to her family, there was great puzzlement. What had happened to this girl? What had that American woman done? Why was she suddenly so much sweeter, so much kinder, so much better in many ways? What was the secret to this change?

During the course of a few months, an LDS single mother through example and counsel had helped a girl better understand how to live more happily in this world. This is something the Gospel does for us, and the values and perspectives it gives we can share with others whether they have any interest in religion or not. The dramatic change in the girl drew the attention of one of her relatives, an influential government official, who did more investigation and concluded that these strange Mormons had values that could help his nation, and maybe should be treated with a little extra kindness. The goodness of one Mormon single mother would trigger a series of events that helped to open doors and bless many lives in an entire nation.

One woman, one teenage girl. Sometimes the biggest things happening in the world occur quietly in mundane places when unrecognized heroes humbly try to do good.
