This past year, I was able to visit a large number of historical church sites including Nauvoo, Kirtland, Palmyra, and the Priesthood restoration site.

With each of these places, one thing that stood out to me is how each of them is relatively obscure by worldly standards, and surrounded by people who do not know of the important events that occurred there.

In effect, that should not surprise us. As Elder Clayton described: “This work of the Lord is indeed great and marvelous, but it moves forward essentially unnoticed by many of mankind’s political, cultural, and academic leaders. The message of the Gospel is spectacular and earth shattering. If only those living near Palmyra could know that God the father had appeared there in those very woods. If only the residents of what was then Harmony PA could know of ancient visitors and priesthood restoration. And that does not cover the incredible panlopy of visions and revelations received in Nauvoo and Kirtland.

But knowledge of those things is limited to the inquirer. Only those who seek to know of God’s will can come to know of the truthfulness of those events.

Just as Nazareth was a small place of little report that nevertheless produced a savior, the restoration occurred in places of little report -then or now. So coming to know truly requires a leap and act of faith
