Veterans-Day

In many countries, November 11 is a day set aside to honor those who have served their county in the military. It is a day to express gratitude to all those who have sacrificed so much—including their very lives—in the cause of freedom.

Many faithful members of the Church, from the days of the Mormon Battalion to the present, have courageously stepped forward as guardians of freedom and have served their country with distinction.

On Veterans’ Day, we join with others in honoring all veterans and their families for their dedicated and valiant service in such a noble cause.

Below is a list of Church resources for those who serve in the military:

  • Military Relations page on LDS.org. This site is designed to help priesthood leaders understand their responsibilities and to provide resources to help strengthen and support Church members in the military.
  • Becoming a Self-Reliant and Resilient Family. This manual contains gospel-centered instructions to help individuals and families respond to the challenges of military life. It includes principles for building a strong marriage, overcoming the trials of family separation and reintegration, and developing deeper faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement.
  • Supporting Military Families. This guide helps Church members who are serving in the military understand some of the challenges they and their families will face and identify resources available to help them.
  • Serving God and Country video online.
  • Video “Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled” available online (also available on DVD). Messages to help members in the military understand gospel teachings as related to war and help them find comfort and peace.
  • Bishops can also provide the following: Serving Your Country (brochure and DVD), small set of scriptures, Principles of the Gospel book, and an LDS identification tag.

The Church’s military relations program consists of (1) Church orientation for members who enter military service, (2) support from stakes and wards regardless of where military members are stationed throughout the world, (3) the organization of service member groups when members in military service are unable to attend local wards or branches, and (4) endorsement of qualified individuals who desire to become military chaplains in the various branches of service.

Find a veteran or active serviceman today and tell him or her thanks for their service!
