President Monson’s Sunday morning sermon was another one that was succinct but encapsulated many themes that President Monson has repeatedly hit in recent years. Most significantly, he focused on the choices we make and how they determine our eternal destiny.

“When we left our premortal existence and entered mortality, we brought with us the gift of agency. Our goal is to obtain celestial glory, and the choices we make will, in large part, determine whether or not we reach our goal.”
President Monson’s terms are very stark. Ultimately, we get to choose whether to get back to our father in heaven. God has given us the way and left us with the ultimate choice. If that’s all we knew, then we would perhaps feel hopeless and lost. But President Monson makes it clear that there is a touchstone to our decision making. Namely, we have a savior that we can always look towards and emulate.

“As we contemplate the decisions we make in our lives each day–whether to make this choice or that choice–if we choose Christ, we will have made the correct choice.”
Christ is the way the truth and the life. His way is the way to God. We simply need to emulate and follow him and accept him as our savior. We need the blessings of his atonement to be able to make the choices that we need to make. We need his power or we are lost.
