10 Neither would they observe the performances of the church, to continue in prayer and supplication to God daily, that they might not enter into temptation.
23 Now, after the people had all offered up thanks after this manner, they returned to their homes, never speaking of their God again until they had assembled themselves together again to the holy stand, to offer up thanks after their manner.

Sometimes people wonder why it’s so important to daily engage in practices such as scripture study and prayer. The story of the Zoramites helps reveal the significance of these practices. 

These people would go weekly to worship God, but then not think about their faith again throughout the week. And so their faith quickly became corrupted into one which puffed up and gratified their lust and desire to sin. If the commandments of God are not a part of your life, then they will not restrain you from sin.

More significantly, faith in a living and loving God cannot be sustained without regular interaction with that God. Otherwise God becomes a distant and abstract entity. 

Living faith requires regular worship and contemplation. It requires active effort to draw closer to God. With the Zoramites we see the consequence of failing to do so.
