Rubies on Sand

Lehi focussed on the heavens

On his staggered string of sons

Who fought and raised their voices

At what their father’d done.

But it’s Sariah who I wonder

When looking at the band

Since as woman of the household

She’d be casting rubies onto sand.

Which blankets best to take for now

Which precious left behind

Pushing linen into corners

For her’s and daughters’ times.

I hope that she had forethought

That flies didn’t drive her mad

That there was comfort in the holding

Of soft and thirsty rags.
