lds-religion-studentsYesterday, Elder Paul V. Johnson, commissioner of education for the Church, announced an enhancement in the religious curriculum at Institutes of Religion and at Church schools (BYU, BYU-Idaho, BYU-Hawaii, and LDS Business College).

Four new courses will be the cornerstones of religious study:

  1. Jesus Christ and the Everlasting Gospel
  2. Foundations of the Restoration
  3. The Teachings and Doctrine of the Book of Mormon
  4. The Eternal Family

They are centered in the scriptures and the teachings of latter-day prophets, with a focus on the Savior, His doctrine, and significant events in Church history.

These four new courses will be required of all incoming students. Existing scripture courses and religion classes will continue to be taught.
