Sunday is a great day to spend time with your family and friends. The Mormon.org blog has published a list of 10 family activities you may want to consider:

1. Visit family or friends, or invite someone over that might need a friend. Consider requesting Mormon missionaries to come to your house and help you understand what they do and why they do it.

2. Visit an elderly person and have them tell you (and your family) about their past. Take a tape recorder with you and type up the interview for the person you interviewed.

3. Record your feelings and experiences in your diary or journal. For young children, have them tell you what they want to write, then let them draw pictures next to the text.

4. Have a family talent show. Have everyone perform for each other.

5. Create a set of paper dolls representing your family. Cut or print images/figures from magazines, off the internet, or have children create them.

6. Create a family letter. Print it out and send it to extended family members

7. Create a “gratitude” list. Give each family a pen and pencil and write 10 things you are grateful for. When everyone finishes, read the items on the list aloud to everyone.

8. Rekindle old memories. Look through old family photos or scrapbooks.

9. Read the scriptures. Take turns reading from the scriptures out loud

10. Memorize favorite scriptures, poems, or inspirational passages. Take turns reciting what you memorized when you finish.

Keeping the Sabbath day holy is a teaching all of us should seriously consider and incorporate. But keeping the sabbath day holy shouldn’t be an uneventful experience. And it isn’t only about going to Church. It is about building a relationship with God and those closest to you—family and friends.

Hinckley, a past Prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints once promised: “If you have any doubt about the wisdom, the divinity of observing the Sabbath Day, … stay home and gather your family about you, teach them the gospel, enjoy yourselves together on the Sabbath Day, come to your meetings, participate. You will know that the principle of the Sabbath is a true principle which brings with it great blessings.”
