Before I knew what it was exactly, I found a citation index and started using it. This was probably a good thing; had I been introduced to it by name, I'd probably have avoided it.
The Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) was on a table with a bunch of other indexes that were the standard author/title/subject stuff. Most of us are familiar with searching for a title or author alphabetically. We are even comfortable searching by subject.
