Just a quick reminder that Segullah’s online book club will discuss The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton on Thursday, February 17. You still have time to read it! I’m in the middle of rereading it right now and savoring Wharton’s expertly crafted prose, rapier sharp wit, and incisive social commentary (commentary on a society—turn-of-the-20th-century New York City—remarkably similar to our own 21st century American Mormon one, in my opinion, just without the really great ball gowns and servants and nights out at the opera).

You might also want to take time to watch, or re-watch, Martin Scorsese’s 1993 film version of the novel, starring Michelle Pfeiffer, Daniel Day Lewis, and Winona Ryder. (If you happen to have Netflix, it’s available for instant viewing.) What a sumptuous movie! It’s quite faithful to the novel and compelling in its own right. I’ll have discussion questions posted about a week before our Feb. 17 date in order to give you time to ruminate on some of the themes or ideas we could discuss.
