When we started the More Good Foundation more than five years ago there were very few people who understood the potential of the internet for missionary work. In fact, many were opposed and were skeptical of what we were trying to do.

It is amazing to see who things have changed.  What David O. McKay had said, “every member is a missionary” , was well known by most members of the Mormon Church, but for some reason this concept was not easily transferred online. In part this may be attributed to real or supposed church policy of the time, but I think that mostly it was a lack of understanding of the power of the internet for missionary work.

Things have changed fortunately, and now it is recognized that since many millions of people are constantly online, something must be done to profit from this powerful tool that we have in our hands.

However, it is not always easily done. According to http://mormonmission.blogspot.com/ there are now 150 online missionaries that are serving in eight mission units throughout the church.

However, the missionaries are not finding an easy way to get noticed using conventional search engines. Perhaps a possibility to improve is to participate in a group blog like many of the Pennsylvania Philadelphia online missionaries do in Good Mormon America.  It is hard to constantly publish new blog posts when working alone.

I believe that united efforts can produce better results online than working alone, unless a member has a lot of time on his hands, or has a natural talent for writing a lot, fast, and interestingly.
