A couple of years ago I was going through an extremely difficult experience. One evening I was feeling particularly sad and discouraged when I said a little pray, telling my Father how I felt and asking for some comfort. After my prayer the following phrase from a well quoted Book of Mormon scripture popped into my mind: "men are, that they might have joy" (2 Nephi 2:25).

My immediate reaction was, "What? This is what you've sent me? How can I have joy?" I did not actually believe that I would be able to feel joy again, or more accurately that I could. Then I began to ponder this scripture and realized that the keyword was "might." Having joy was a choice and the Lord was telling me that I could, and should, choose to have joy.

This experience has been very special to me, one that I often think about and which continues to give me hope and helps me to choose to be happy.
